In this review, part of our ongoing series comparing tech pouches from one to two liters, we put the Desk Caddy through a reader's and writer's packout to see how it handles real gear.

Build and Materials

The Desk Caddy comes in at 5.9 x 9.4 x 3.1 inches and weighs about 5.2 ounces. The unit reviewed here is in a brown colorway and priced at $59.

Bellroy builds its products with recycled materials, and the Desk Caddy uses a mix of different fabric compositions rather than a single material. That's worth noting up front, since we normally lead with a straightforward materials breakdown.

A few observations on the construction:

• The fabric choices lean toward Bellroy's recycled-material approach rather than harder-wearing options like X-Pac Ultra or Cordura.
• For a product in this category, a more rugged material could add durability and structure.

That said, the caddy holds its shape well and, when packed properly, stands upright on a desk for easy access.

Organization

The layout is centered on a single main compartment with a single-zip operation, but there's more inside than that suggests.

Inside you'll find:

• A back tech pocket sized for a phone.
• Four webbing loops along one side for tools, pens, or small accessories.
• One main open cavity for larger items.
• A pen loop at the back.
• A zippered mesh pocket for smaller gear.
• A front pocket for additional overflow.

How It Packs Out

For our reader's-day-out packout, the Desk Caddy handled a solid mix of gear:

• A journal fit into the back tech pocket.
• A Kindle (with cover) and a reading light sat in the main cavity, held in position.
• An e-ink reader slotted into one of the webbing loops.
• Highlighters went into the zippered mesh pocket.
• A power bank and a dual pen pouch fit alongside the reading light.
• A three-in-one charging cable tucked in on the side.
• AirPods rounded things out, with room to reorganize for a cleaner fit.

The compartment fills up quickly once you add a power bank, cables, and earbuds, so some experimenting with placement helps. The upside is that everything stays structured and reachable: open it up, pull out the Kindle or e-reader, use it, and slot it back in.

Comfort and Use

The Desk Caddy is designed to be set down and left standing on a desk, which is where it shines. You open it, place it beside you, and treat it like a miniature portable workstation. When packed properly, it stands on its own so items are visible and accessible.

Compared to other desk caddies we've looked at, this one offers more versatility and noticeably better structure.

Where It Falls Short

A couple of limitations stood out:

• The back tech pocket is tight. It's clearly sized around an iPhone and barely takes a Max. It won't fit a Kindle, which feels like a missed opportunity for a product meant to carry reading gear. A slightly larger pocket would let it hold an e-reader.
• The webbing pockets could be mesh instead. The stretch webbing looks good, but for a desk caddy where users will carry small items like AirPods and earbuds, dedicated mesh pockets would keep small gadgets more secure and organized.

The Bellroy Desk Caddy suits readers, writers, and anyone who wants a self-contained kit to move between home, a cafe, a library, or the office. If your daily carry revolves around a small tablet or e-reader, a reading light, a power bank, and a few tools, this caddy keeps it organized and desk-ready.

If you specifically need to carry a Kindle in a protected pocket, be aware that it won't fit the dedicated tech sleeve, though it will ride in the main cavity with a cover.
